Trieste, an Italian city with a European soul

Trieste, an Italian city with a European soul

Trieste's cosmopolitan past can be seen in every corner of the city: from the Hapsburg architecture of Piazza Unità d'Italia to the imposing beauty of the Miramare Castle and the literary cafés scattered around the centre. Umberto Saba described it as a mixture of grace and surliness, but what stays with you most the first time you see Trieste is its refined, cultured, Central European atmosphere.

The caves and paths carved into the Karst rock

The caves and paths carved into the Karst rock

The Karst is a rocky limestone plateau on the eastern border of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Visiting its cliffs and caves, admiring the stones moulded by water and wind, and walking along the paths carved out of the rock, does not only mean experiencing a place of boundless beauty, it also means entering into history and the many places hidden away in its landscapes, which were the setting for the First World War.

Postojna Cave

After setting out from Tenuta Primero, you only need to drive an hour to get to Postojna Cave in Slovenia. Over the years, this natural wonder has attracted more than 40 million visitors, and exploring it on foot or with the handy little train is an incredible experience. Admire the moonscapes and gorges it hides: walking inside, you may come across the Brillante (a glowing white 5-metre stalagmite) or strange creatures such as the proteus, also known as the 'baby dragon'!
