A gastronomy envied all over the world. We will introduce you to the wonders of Emilia Romagna’s culinary excellence, a universe to be explored with your heart and your taste buds!
A cup of coffee, tea or cappuccino and a classic sweet breakfast, or perhaps a savoury English breakfast with stronger flavours: in our rich buffet, freshly prepared, you will find many options to start your day on the right foot, thanks also to fresh and high-quality ingredients.
Did you know that Bologna is also known as “la grassa” (“the fat”) due to its typical dishes and products which have made it famous throughout the world? There are a great many places where you can sample gastronomic delights, but if you want to satisfy your fancy and curiosity, then a visit to “Grand Tour Italia” is a must. This theme park dedicated to food offers PDO and PGI products, traditional dishes and authentic flavours for you to sample.
It is said that the most important ingredient of all good dishes is love. And love is precisely what our chefs put into the dishes they prepare; it gives an extra something that makes your mouth water at the very thought of a dish of “Tagliatelle al Ragù” (Tagliatelle with meat sauce) or Crescentine (small fried bread doughs, typical of Bolognese cuisine) with cured meats. Bologna, along with the whole of Emilia Romagna, is one of the cradles of traditional Italian cuisine!
With its 44 food products bearing the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) marks and a range of top quality indigenous grape varieties, Emilia Romagna has earned itself the name Food Valley on an international level. Typical specialities such as the Romagna-style piadina, the Prosciutto di Parma, the Parmigiano Reggiano, the Mortadella Bologna or the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena are famous throughout the world, proving how local foods from this area have now taken on a global dimension.
Tagliatelle with meat sauce and Lasagne are some of Bologna’s famous dishes, but the most important dish is “Tortellini”: an egg pasta with a delicious meat filling. Legend has it that they were invented in an tavern in Castelfranco Emilia, between Modena and Bologna, and were modelled on the shape of the navel of Venus. Enjoy them served in a beef and capon broth!
Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati: Emilia Romagna is not only known as Food Valley, but also as Motor Valley, with passion for speed, homeland to some of the world's most prestigious sports car and motorbike brands. Perhaps you are the kind of person who likes the slow rhythms of the bicycle: here you can find plenty of cycle paths in our area. One of the most fascinating is the Ciclovia del Sole, a path that goes from Bologna to Mirandola, following the old railway tracks.
