Maremma Regional Park in Tuscany
This is the most renowned of the Regional Parks also known as the “Parco dell’Uccellina”. Do not miss during your walking holiday in Tuscany the panoramic views from the top of the hills that stretch along the entire Tyrrhenian coast as far as the Island of Giglio, the Island of Elba and Corsica, with its succession of various natural environments including hills, Mediterranean maquis, cultivated fields and sandy beaches.
Tuscan Archipelago National Park
This is the largest marine park in Europe and includes all the seven main islands in the Tuscan Archipelago. According to legend, the seven islands are seven pearls of a necklace that Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, lost whilst bathing in the Mediterranean Sea. The Park is the largest protected area in the European seas and on its islands you may catch sight of a number of rare species of animals, such as the Corsican seagull, the monk seal and some varieties of cetaceans.
Island of Giglio
From Porto Santo Stefano, you can easily reach the island by ferry: known throughout the world for the wonders of its natural environment. The crystal clear, emerald green sea, with its rich sea beds abounding in fish, forms the backdrop to an area that is still 90% wild, rich in Mediterranean flora, which invites you to explore the numerous little coves.
The WWF Oases in the Orbetello area
Some of the WWF oases in Tuscany can be found in the area near Orbetello, Argentario and Capalbio. First and foremost, the Orbetello Lagoon: thanks to its position along migratory routes it is the destination of thousands of birds (including Pink Flamingo and Black-winged Stilt), especially in winter. The reserve is the perfect place for bird watching.
