Someone has called them 'the most mysterious mountains in central Italy', and the legends that surround them derive mainly from the fact that until the last century on Mount Sibilla you could find a cave believed to be the home of the Apennine Sibyl. More practically, this mountain range will offer you fantastic natural vistas and breathtaking views shaped by the wind that you can discover through guided hikes or trails such as The Great Sibillini Loop.
Opened to the public in 1974, the Frasassi Caves are one of the most impressive natural shows in the world. Extraordinary stalactites and giant stalagmites join crystal flows in different “rooms” that will take your breath away for their beauty. Explore the charming 'Ancona Abyss' with its 'Crystallised Pond' and the 'Niagara Waterfall', admire the 'Organ Pipes' or the 'Candle Room' in the 'Grand Canyon' area. You can’t say to have been on holiday in the Marche region without visiting this natural wonder!
The Paper and Watermark Museum in Fabriano is somewhat of a symbol of the craftsmanship that has made the city in the Marche region of Italy famous throughout the world. Understanding the history of the invention of paper and experiencing first-hand the entire production process of this material is an extraordinary experience. But the city centre is also worth a visit, and perhaps the perfect occasion to enjoy a stop at a traditional restaurant
The city that was Raphael's birthplace is itself an open-air work of art, set against a striking natural backdrop. But Urbino is not only the beauty of the Ducal Palace, the grandeur of the Albornoz Fortress or the Renaissance charm of its central streets. In fact, the city is part, together with Acqualagna, Cagli, Fermignano and Fossombrone, of the Furlo Nature Reserve, a natural area full of natural trails for trekking enthusiasts.
Just a 15-minute drive from our village is Fermo, an urban centre of Roman origin perched on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. If you happen to be in the area, stop for a visit to the Roman Cisterns, a water system dating back to the Augustan period that covers an impressive 2200 square metres. Its tunnels are amazing, and give an idea of the magnificence of a crucial work for the city.
