Visit Ravenna, the city of mosaics
Ravenna was three times a capital: of the Western Roman Empire, of King Theodoric of the Goths and of the Byzantine Empire. Here is the most important collection of mosaics in the world. If you see it, you’ll fall in love with it, as Boccaccio and Gustav Klimt did in the past. The city was the final refuge of Dante Alighieri and the backdrop to Lord Byron’s romances.
Ravenna UNESCO World Heritage Site
In Ravenna there are 8 buildings declared UNESCO World Heritage Site: Basilica of San Vitale, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, Mausoleum of Theodoric, Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Baptistery of Neon, Arian Baptistery, Arch-episcopal Chapel and Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe. Visit them all, it's worth it!
